From a satsang with Pt. Umadutt Maharaj, Spiritual Leader, SWAHA Bhakti Jyot Mandali
In the sacred scriptures of Sanaatan Dharma, a treasure of narratives unfolds, weaving tales that illuminate the omnipotent and benevolent nature of the Divine Mother. It is said that this whole Universe, from Brahma to the blade of grass, is enchanted by that Unborn and Incomprehensible Maayaa (the delusive potency of the Divine Mother).
Picture this: Having celebrated the defeat of their demonic enemies, the Devas have been celebrating their victory; they believe that they are once again invincible. The celestial realm witnesses the manifestation of the Divine as a radiant light, a spectacle that leaves the Devas in awe and reverence. Driven by curiosity and devotion, the celestial beings seek to fathom the identity of the divinity. It is then that the Goddess, in disguise through her delusive maayaa and her wisdom, presents the Devas with a test—a seemingly simple task with profound implications.
The challenge is to move a humble blade of grass without employing their mighty powers. Despite being the strongest natural forces in the universe, the Devas falter in this seemingly trivial task. This episode serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of humility in the face of the divine. It signifies that even the most powerful beings should maintain a sense of humility and surrender when in the presence of the Goddess. The Devi, the Mother Divine Energy, is a symbol of compassion, submission, sensitivity and beauty. She reminded the Devas that their victory is the victory of Brahman.
The story serves as a metaphor for life’s journey, where acknowledging our limitations and approaching the divine with humility is essential. The Divine Mother, through this tale, teaches us that recognizing our own weaknesses and surrendering with humility is the key to spiritual growth.
The Divine Mother, like any caring parent, shields her children from both internal and external adversities. She urges the divine ones not to be complacent, for the forces of evil perpetually challenge the forces of good. The inherent dualities within us, represented by the qualities of tamas (inertia), rajas (passion) and sattwa (piety), require constant introspection. Just as we train our bodies physically, we must embark on spiritual training, delving into self-analysis and cultivating self-awareness.
Every day becomes a canvas for introspection, a continuous journey of understanding our predominant states. The Divine Mother’s intervention provides the much-needed gyaan, knowledge and divine wisdom, to navigate through the complexities of our inner selves.
In essence, with the blessings of Devi Maa, the prime cause of all existence, we transcend the forces of negativity. Her divine grace becomes a guiding light, leading us towards spirituality and positivity. As we embrace humility and devotion, we gain the protective and nurturing presence of the Divine Mother—a sanctuary where the forces of negativity dissipate, and the radiance of spiritual awakening prevails.
