From a satsang with Paramacharya of SWAHA, H.H. Pt. Hardeo Persad
Vivah Panchami or Shree Raam Seeta Vivah, observed on December 5, 2024, marks the divine wedding of Lord Raam and Sita Devi as recounted in the sacred epic, the Ramaayan. The wedding occurs after Shree Raam conquers the challenge of not only stringing, but breaking the divine bow of Lord Shiva. The event is not merely a historical or mythological episode but a profound spiritual allegory, providing guidance for every seeker’s spiritual journey.
The human body, akin to the city of Ayodhya, becomes the stage for this sacred drama, with each divine player representing human functions. Within us resides the bow of Lord Shiva, symbolised by the medulla oblongata, the part of the brain which governs our reflexive responses. Overcoming these reflexes requires us to advance spiritually, reaching a state of thoughtlessness where the bow is mastered, and we transcend bodily limitations.
Lord Raam represents pure spirituality, while Sita Devi embodies refined intellect. Ravan, symbolising ego and materialism, is incapable of wielding the divine bow, reflecting how worldly distractions can prevent us from reaching the highest states of consciousness. Only through spiritual discipline and internal refinement can the kundalini energy rise to the sahasrara chakra (crown energy vortex), signifying the ultimate union of Brahm and Shakti.
The breaking of the bow signifies a transformative moment. However, it also brings challenges, represented by the kings who attack Lord Raam. These kings symbolise the eight major yogic powers and 27 minor ones, that can become obstacles if misused or misunderstood. Parashuramji, with his axe of discernment, reminds us to transcend these powers and strive for non-duality, the ultimate state of spirituality.
When the wedding of Shree Raam and Sita Devi takes place symbolically within us, it signifies the harmony of stability, equanimity and transcendence. It results in a state of joy and bliss. The Ramaayan thus serves as more than a katha, or mythological story; it is a roadmap for navigating life’s dualities and achieving the bliss of spiritual fulfilment.
The divine wedding inspires us to embark upon a sacred internal spiritual journey, leading to joy, wisdom and a profound sense of oneness with all creation and divinity.
