In Memory of the Shankaracharya of SWAHA

On December 11th we observe with reverence the birth anniversary of the Shankaracharya of SWAHA, the late Pt. Hari Prasad, founder of SWAHA International in 1993.

Shankaracharyaji was respected and revered worldwide for his spirituality, devotion and foresight, and he influenced numerous lives with his profound wisdom and philosophy. In reminiscing on this exemplary leader of Sanaatan Dharma, we honour his philosophy of life through his words:

“Although challenges will always exist, and hindrances will always be placed in our path, our Scriptures urge us to not give up.”

“Have total faith in God and do your duty. Develop stability of mind and believe in our Scriptures. We must continue to maintain our dharma and live a simple life at His feet.”

“Consuming the right food, meditating, praying and exercising are useful in the quest for a long and fruitful life.”

“Do your best to enlighten your children, raise them with care and set the right example. Pass on the right knowledge to them; they will listen to you.”

The Shankaracharya lived and worked in the service of others throughout his life. An embodiment of self-sacrifice, he was considered an ideal husband, father and Guru by his family and chelas.

During his 65 years as a practising pundit, the Shankaracharya initiated thousands of devotees from around the world. His spiritual advice was sought by national leaders, scholars and spiritual persons. He made himself available to all without fear or favour, irrespective of creed, race or social status.  He understood that enlightened ritualism and a clear knowledge of the philosophy of Sanataan Dharma are needed in modern times.

Shankaracharyaji always reinforced the value of education in self-development.  He also highlighted the value and importance of family life.

Not only was he physically strong, but on numerous occasions he demonstrated internal strength when confronted with adversity or criticism. He constantly advised his devotees to have faith in God, develop stability of mind and believe in our Scriptures.

He always said that God has blessed us with everything that we need. Therefore, we must continue to maintain dharma and live a simple life at the feet of God in his memory. Once we perform self-sacrifice, stay true to our principles and have compassion for those around us, his name will be forever revered.

Today, his distinguished progeny nurtures the flame of SWAHA at home and abroad, carrying on his tremendous spiritual legacy.

Shankaracharya’s life was his message. It is an eternal message that nourishes the flame of SWAHA. It continues to shed light upon all, bringing us nearer to true enlightenment.
