On January 9th 2019, two students of Swaha Hindu College received awards from the High Commission of India at a ceremony held at the Divali Nagar. Form 6 student, Shalini Heetai and Rayon Ramoutarsingh of Form 3 OM, who participated in the international Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz, placed second and fourth respectively among Trinidad and Tobago participants. They received their awards from H.E. Bishwadip Dey, High Commissioner of India, during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, a celebratory day observed by the Republic of India to mark the contribution of the overseas Indian community.
The Bharat Ko Janiye is an online quiz that was launched by the Government of India’s Ministry of External Affairs for youth aged 18-35 years in the Indian Diaspora. The quiz, which began in 2015, aims to motivate overseas Indian youth to enhance their knowledge about India. The quiz is open to three categories of participants: persons of Indian origin (PIO), non-resident Indians (NRI) and foreign nationals. Quiz topics include Indian art, Indian democracy, economy, geography, personalities in music and dance, science and technology, languages and literature, education, tradition of Indian crafts, Indian cinema and renowned personalities.
Swaha wishes to extend congratulations to these Swaha Hindu College students for their outstanding achievement and to the High Commission of India for the opportunity provided to these students.
