Various misconceptions surround the lighting of the single deeya on the night before Divali . This light is popularly referred to as ‘yam-deep’ or ‘jam ke deeya’ and is usually lit at the back of one’s house.
A deeper understanding of this deeya lies in the fact that Hinduism has a periphery of festivals throughout the year, the theme of all of them being spiritual and material enlightenment. The celebrations also serve to bring communities together, to harmonize the diverse traditions and bolster the socialization process. Also, the joy and exuberance expressed in these celebrations accentuate the need for attaining to the state of ‘Brahmaanand’, a condition of perfect peace. This state, in effect, is the true nature of man. In Trinidad, these celebrations are usually preambled by some form of tribute paid to our ancestors for their unique role as progenitors of our traditions. Our ancestors are representative of all that Divali signifies. They have lit countless lamps that have paved the way for the continuing supremacy of truth and knowledge over the darkness of ignorance, the reign of dedication and devotion to goodness and God and the persevering power of virtues , sacrifice and all other positive qualities. These forbears of ours have bequeathed unto us an endowment of rich traditions, belief systems and values that are pursuant to the path of light and enlightenment . For such invaluable inheritance and much more, we are eternally indebted and need to show gratitude. It is therefore incumbent upon us as Hindus, to maintain, enhance and propagate these gems of our culture. Only then can we say that we are truly performing ‘Pitri yagya’ which is one of the ‘Panch Maha yagya’ that we ought to do on a daily basis. The lighting of the ‘yam-deep’ is just one of several simple acts of remembrance in the name of those who have carved this firm and deeply-rooted path for us.
The lighting of the deeya is a stern reminder that our pathways should continue to remain brightly lit, signifying not only our material wealth, but spiritual affluence also, which leads to the ultimate goal of merging with Divinity. The six forms of spiritual wealth, symbolized by the six deeyas lit during Mahalakshmi Puja, all direct man towards this goal. These six are tranquility, serenity, faith, endurance, control of the senses and renunciation of selfish actions and desires. Alprazolam 2 mg http://sellersvillepharmacy.com/xanax.php
Every celebration serves to steer us closer towards our true nature, to the goal of freedom. As we mark these observances, whether Divali, Ram Navami, Nav Raatri etc, we should reflect upon the significant role of our ancestors on our own development, and express gratitude to them for having laid the foundation for continuing generations to embark upon this journey to freedom. We bring glory to their name, we embellish their work and we ensure that their legacy is enriched with time. At Divali, such an expression is done by the simple act of lighting a single deeya on the night before the celebration of the festival.

Hello sir/ma’m
My mother lit yam ka diya for 43 days. But after 43rd day she experienced health problems. Which led to her death. Is it possible that she did something wrong while litting diya or it was a destiny … Predecided that coincedencely took place together.

Should Yam Deep be offered to Lord Yam Narayan a day before Diwali or on Triyodashi Tithi … which may fall on a day before or on the day of Dhanteras … in which case it may be offered 2 days before diwali. Jai Shri Hari.
