The asuras, or demons, were extremely bad. They always tortured the Devtas who were suffering so much from the attacks of the demons that they went to Lord Vishnu for help in defeating the demons.
Lord Vishnu said to them, “I do not have enough power to defeat or destroy the demons. I must seek help from Lord Shiva. He will help me.”
When Lord Vishnu went to Shivaji, he found Him in deep meditation and did not want to disturb Him. So he started worshipping the Lord.
Every day, for years and years, Lord Vishnu prayed to Shivaji, meditated on Him and chanted His name very devotedly. This went on for such a long time and still Shiva remained steadfast in his meditative trance. Lord Vishnu was helpless! The Devtas continued to be mercilessly tortured by the demons and it seemed as if he was unable to save them.
He then decided to intensify his worship. He decided to offer one thousand lotus flowers to Shiva while chanting His one thousand names.
After making all his preparations, Vishnu began to worship Shiva most devotedly. One by one, he offered the lotus flowers and chanted Shiva’s name. When he came to the end, he realised that one flower was missing. He had only counted 999. That meant he had to go and find one more lotus. Instead of doing that, he immediately thought of plucking out one of his eyes and placing it before Shiva.
As He was about to do this, Lord Shiva appeared before Him, stopped him from plucking out his eyes and said, “I will grant you your wish.”
“Please give me something that will help me to conquer the demons,” said Vishnu.
Shivaji replied, “I give you this chakra. It will help you to conquer all your enemies. No matter how many demons come to attack you and the other Gods, you will be able to defeat them all.”
On receiving the chakra, Lord Vishnu was able to defeat the demons and save the Devtas.

Nice to read the story about Vishnu’s Chakra. Here i would like to share my details about the “Sudharshana Chakra”. The Sudharshana Chakra can be considered as an important symbol in Hinduism. There are several tales that explains the origin of this symbol and how Maha Vishnu became the possessor of this mighty weapon. One such tale is, Maha Vishnu offered penance to God Shiva for years to obtain a powerful weapon to tackle the disharmony caused by Asuras in the world. Once God Shiva opened his eyes, he was impressed by Vishnu’s commitment and dedication, he created the Sudarshana Chakra.
Another tales revovles around Vishwakarma, whose daughter was married to the sun god. Vishwakarma could not endure the heat and the brightness of the sun, hence he was not able to go near. In order to get closer, he reduced the intensity of the sun and with the dust and heat, he created the Sudarshana chakra.
In Hinduism, the Sudarshana Chakra signifies something bigger. It is a symbol of protection as the chakra has the power to destroy anything in its path with its razor sharp blades. Its a sign of hope, righteousness and knowledge. There are several temples dedicated to the Sudharshana Chakra.
